OPTIONAL - RIBBON (Ribbon, per metre, various prices)

HOW TO DECOUPAGE YOUR LAMPSHADE:

1. Brush the lampshade with a clean paintbrush to remove any dust that has collected. If using a new lampshade, remove the cellophane covering and throw it away.
2. Cover a work area with newspaper. Place the lampshade on the newspaper. Light-colored lampshades work best for this project. The pale colors allow the light to highlight the decoupage pictures.
3. Clip out paper images with scissors. Cut up 2-inch to 4-inch sections of tissue paper using scissors. You need plenty of pieces to cover the entire shade. Working with small pieces ensures good coverage.
Pour decoupage glue into a small, shallow tray or plate. Dab a 1-inch paintbrush into the glue, then rub it on the lampshade. Start at the top or bottom of the shade to create some type of order.
4. Position the tissue or paper cutouts on the glue. Press down gently. Dab the brush in the decoupage glue and then cover the paper with the glue. Continue adding tissue or cutouts and brushing the shade, covering the paper and applying a top coat.
5. Fill in gaps with small pieces of tissue. Allow the decoupage to dry for one hour. Seal the lampshade by covering the entire surface with a light coating of decoupage glue. Let the lampshade dry overnight.
6. Place the lampshade on the lamp.
7. OPTIONAL - Use a hot glue gun to add ribbons or other adornments to the rim of the lampshade. Let the glue dry for one minute.
