Spring and Summer Yarns

Posted by Aine on 26th Apr 2017

When it comes to knitted and crocheted garments we tend to think of cosy jumpers and big chunky scarves, but with winter over it's time to change up your patterns for the warmer weather! Here are just a few ideas for your spring/summer yarn projects.

Working with cotton yarn is the perfect way to adjust your knitting and crochet projects for spring and summer. Rico Creative Cotton Aran is a 100% cotton yarn, making it wonderfully breathable and also perfect for anyone with sensitive skin who usually couldn't wear wool garments. There is a fabulous range of shades and the slightly thicker aran weight of this yarn makes it that bit faster to work with. Why not get started on a lovely lightweight shawl or cardigan for summer evenings?

Of course you can make so much more than just clothes when knitting or crocheting. T-shirt yarns have become so popular recently, especially for crochet projects. Their chunky weight allows you to see your progress much faster than standard yarns and they are strong enough to make shopping bags or even bath mats!

Amigurumi is another hugely popular yarn craft with hundreds of different patterns and ideas available on websites such as Pinterest and Ravelry. It originated in Japan and is the art of crocheting or knitting small stuffed animals or dolls. These would make lovely soft toys for babies and children using a cotton or bamboo yarn. If you keep up with our Facebook page you may have seen information on the Octopus for Preemie action. It is a group of volunteers who use premium cotton to crochet octopus toys for premature babies. Anyone can take part in donating octopus toys to this group so if you are looking for a charitable use for your crochet skills then this is a great project to get started with.
