Matt Dinniman is an American author and artist from Gig Harbor, Washington, best known for the wildly popular Dungeon Crawler Carl series — a science fantasy LitRPG adventure following Coast Guard veteran Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, as they battle their way through a deadly alien-run dungeon crawl that doubles as an intergalactic reality show. Originally serialised online via Royal Road in 2019, the series exploded into a word-of-mouth phenomenon, with print rights picked up by Penguin Random House's Ace Books in 2024. The first eight books have since sold over ten million copies, landed multiple spots on the New York Times bestseller list, and a television adaptation is currently in development with Peacock. Funny, chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt, Dungeon Crawler Carl has been praised by the likes of Brandon Sanderson and described as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy meets Dungeons & Dragons.
